There is plenty of research into 'common' illnesses such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. However, other conditions routinely treated with the same drugs are not included in the research. This is frustrating because those patients with these rare diseases are then exclued from treatment with the new drugs. My partner has Multicentric Reticulohistiocytosis and has tried many treatments. He is currently treated with a combination of Methotrexate and Enbrel with some success. Enbrel is readily available to patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis from the local pharmacy via the national drug subsidy, however we are excluded from this and are only able to get the Enbrel with special permission from a local hospital - when we move interstate next month this will cause us significant difficulty.
